Dinosaurs!!

Hello Everyone,

This week begins our two week unit on dinosaurs.  During these next two weeks we will be learning about different kinds of dinosaurs, discovering fossils in our sensory table, making a dinosaur skeleton and going on a fun field trip to the movie theater!  Our letters will be "Dd" and "Oo."  Please continue to work with your child on writing these letters.  Another fun activity is to search for these letters while you're out and about or around the house.  We continue to review our numbers.  This week we are working on #5-6 and next week will be #7-8.  Please continue to have your child write his/her name whenever possible.  They can be writing their names on their homework as extra practice.  We continue to work on name writing at school and will be starting the fourth letter of their names shortly. 

Upcoming Events:

~ Our field trip to The Broadway Theatre is Mon., Jan. 30th and Tues., Jan. 31st.  We will be leaving school at 8:35 and be back around 10:45.  Please return the snack money in the envelope as soon as you can.  

~There is no school on Friday, January 27th.  This is a teacher inservice day as it is the end of the semester.

~Second quarter report cards will be coming home Monday, January 30th and Tuesday, January 31st in your child's folder.  Please sign the envelope and return it to school with your child.  Remember, the report cards are yours to keep.  Also, if you have any questions about how something was graded, please let me know.  We can talk over what I am seeing at school versus what you are seeing at home.  My door is always open!  

~Valentine's Day parties will be Mon., Feb. 13th and Tues., Feb. 14th.  More information will be coming home at the beginning of February.

Games, Games, Games

Greetings,

This week will be oodles of fun!  Our theme is "games" and our letter of the week is "Gg."   This means that we will be playing a lot of games, as well as reviewing the numbers 3 and 4.   On Monday and Tuesday we will be making our very own bingo boards with "Gg" words/pictures.  Together as a class we will play "Gg Bingo."  During centers in the afternoon, we will introduce games like Hi Ho Cherrio, Candyland, Don't Break the Ice, Memory, and Colors and Shapes Bingo, just to name a few!  Games are a great way to teach teamwork, sportsmanship, turn taking, direction following and much, much more. On Wednesday and Thursday, high school and middle school students will be coming to MAES to play board games with us in the media room!  On Wednesday, game time will be from 10:10-10:40 and on Thursday from about 8:30-9:10.  We continue to test on Quarter 2 skills as well as letter recognition and letter sounds!

Friday, January 20th is our Movie FBI which will take place at Stetsonville Elementary at 1:15.  You are more than welcome to bring blankets, pillows or lawn chairs as the movie will take place in the gym.  We hope to see all of you there that signed up!

Another optional family involvement event will take place on February 28th, which is an Early Release Day.  On this day, there will be a round table of
community providers that will share information on their
resources and services available for adults, children, and families in
the community.  There are two times available for your families to attend: 2:15-3:30 or 4-5 in the media room at MAES.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

UPCOMING EVENTS: 

-Book orders are due Wednesday and/or Thursday of this week.

-We will be staring the BIG CHEESE, which is like "star of the week" for our classroom.  One child will be the big cheese for the week.  When it is your child's turn, you will find a note and a poster in his/her folder to complete and return to school.

-There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, January 27th as it is the end of the semester.

-2nd Quarter report cards will be coming home on Mon., January 30 and Tues., January 31.

  

-The Pre-K Field trip to The Broadway Theater will be on Mon., Jan. 30 and Tues., Jan. 31.  We will leave school around 8:35 and will return before lunch.  Please remember to turn in your child's popcorn and soda money as soon as possible.

- We will be having our Valentine's Day parties on Mon., Feb. 13th and Tues., Feb. 14th.  Your child may begin bringing in their valentine's on or after February 1st.  More information, including a list of the child's names, will be coming home shortly.
