Dr. Seuss Week

Greetings,
This week in Pre-K we continue to learn about rhyming by celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday.  We will be having fun dress up days throughout the week including dress up to show us where you want to be day, hat day, silly sock day, and wear green day.  We will be reading many Dr. Seuss books and are lucky enough to have Mr. Miller read one to us too!

Throughout the week we will make fun projects including a Cat in the Hat headband, Thing 1 and Thing 2 (with our handprints) and an actual Cat in the Hat!  We are also beginning our quarter 3 testing.  Please continue to work with your child at home on skills s/he may be struggling with.  Extra practice is incredibly beneficial to your child!

Valentine's Day

Greetings Pre-K Families,

This week in Pre-K our theme is Valentine's Day.  Our letter of the week is "Vv."  Please take some time to review this letter and its sound with your child.  I appreciate all you do at home with your child.

Some of the fun things we will be doing this week include: making a love bug, sorting candy hearts, making heart hand prints (with paint), playing a Valentine's Day memory/match game, and graphing Valentine's Day candy.  Be sure to look for a special Valentine's Day gift in your child's folder.  This will come home Wednesday and Thursday.  :)

We will be having our Valentine's Day celebration on Wednesday, February 13th and Thursday, February 14th.  Your child may choose to bring valentines in for his/her friends but it is not a requirement.  Please remember that we have a severe peanut allergy in our classroom, therefore any food items must be purchased and in the original packaging.  Valentines have already started to come in!  If you have not sent them yet, and plan to, please have them to school by Wednesday or Thursday.

REMINDERS AND UPDATES:
**Our theme for next week will be "Nursery Rhymes."

**The district's attendance policy requires a written excuse for all absences.  If your child is absent, please remember to send a note with him/her stating the reason for the absence in order for it to be excused.   A phone call does not meet this policy's requirement.

**Please review your child's report card and return the envelope to school in your child's folder.  The report card is yours to keep.  As always, if you have any questions, please contact me.

**There will be NO SCHOOL for all grades on Friday, Feb. 15th.

**There will be an EARLY RELEASE for all grades on Tuesday, Feb. 19th.  Students will be released at 1:52 P.M.

**This month's Families Being Involved workshop will take place on Friday, Feb. 22nd.  More information was sent home Monday and Tuesday in your child's folder.

**The second Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28th in the evening.  This conference is only for those requested by the parent or the teacher.  Please watch for slips to be coming home Wednesday and Thursday in your child's folder.

A New Kind of Reading

Today, while reading My Xx Book, our Tuesday/Thursday friends were given the opportunity to read to each other.  They really seemed to enjoy going back and forth.  When they were finished, I heard many of them say, "Let's read them again!"  It is so great to see them growing and becoming more independent.  Please encourage your child to read their books to you when they get home! :)  Here are just a few pictures of the fun that took place!

Sadie is reading to her partner, Evan.

Hanul and Taytene enjoy reading about a T-rex.

Chloe listens to Sawyer read about Xx words.

Dental Health

This week in Pre-K we will be learning about dental health.  Monday and Tuesday we will make lists of good vs. bad things for our teeth, have an exciting conversation about the toothpaste we use :) and learn about things we can eat to make our teeth healthy and strong.  Our letter this week is "Xx" and we will be talking about items/objects that END with the letter Xx, such as ox, fox and box.  Please practice the /ks/ sound with your child, as it seems like many children find this sound hard to remember.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and this means we will be having a Valentine's Day celebration on Wednesday, February 13th and Thursday, February 14th.  Your child may choose to bring valentines in for his/her friends but it is not a requirement.  Please remember that we have a severe peanut allergy in our classroom, therefore any food items must be purchased and in the original packaging.  Your child will have more information on our Valentine's Day party in his/her folder Monday and Tuesday.
